Apprenticeship Indenture - Martha Brent
THIS INDENTURE, made the third Day of June in the
eleventh Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Fourth by
the Grace of God, of the united Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland,
King, defender of the Faith, and in the Year of our Lord, One thousand
Eight hundred and thirty WITNESSETH, That in Pursuance and in Execution
of an Order under the Hands of JOHN KENDALL FLETCHER Doctor in Divinity
and HENRY WOOLLCOMBE two of his Majesty’s Justices of the Peace, acting
in and for the County of Cornwall bearing date this third day of June
1830 (made according to the Provisions of an Act passed in the
Fifty-Sixth Year of the Reign of his late Majesty King George the Third,
entitled “An Act to regulate the Binding of Parish Apprentices.”)
SAMPSON LUCAS and JOHN WORTH Churchwardens of the Parish of Saint
Dominick in the said County. And MARY BOND and JOHN MITCHELL Overseers
of the Poor of the said Parish, have put and placed, and by these
presents do put and place MARTHA BRENT aged eleven Years and upwards, a
poor Child of the said parish of Saint Dominick Apprentice to GEORGE
HARRIS of the said parish of Saint Dominick in the said County Yeoman
with him to dwell and serve from the day of the Date of these Presents,
until the said Apprentice shall accomplish her full Age of Twenty-one
Years or be married according to the Statute in that case made and
provided. During all which Term the said Apprentice her said Master
faithfully shall serve in all lawful Business, according to her Power,
Wit, and Ability; and Honestly, Orderly, and Obediently, in all Things
demean and behave herself towards her said Master and all his during the
said Term. And the said GEORGE HARRIS for himself, his Executors and
Administrators, doth covenant and grant to and with the said
Churchwardens and Overseers, and every of them, their and every of their
Executors and Administrators and their and every of their Successors,
for the Time being, by these Presents, That he the said GEORGE HARRIS
the said Apprentice in Housewifery shall and will teach and instruct, or
cause to be taught and instructed in the best way and manner that he can
during the Term. And shall and will, during all the Term aforesaid,
find, provide, and allow unto the said Apprentice, meet, competent, and
sufficient Meat, Drink, and Apparel, Lodging, Washing, and all other
Things necessary, and fit for an Apprentice; Provided always, that the
last mentioned Covenant on the part and behalf of the said GEORGE HARRIS
his Executors and Administrators, to be done and performed, shall
continue and be in force for no longer Time than Three Calendar Months
next after the Death of the said GEORGE HARRIS in Case the said GEORGE
HARRIS shall happen to die during the Continuance of such
Apprenticeship, according to the Provisions of an Act passed in the
Thirty-Second Year of the Reign of King George the Third, intitled (“An
Act for the further Regulation of Parish Apprentices.”) And also shall
and will so provide for the said Apprentice, that he be not any way a
charge to the said Parish of Saint Dominick or Parishioners of the same;
but of and from all Charge, shall and will save the said Parish of Saint
Dominick harmless and indemnified during the said Term.
IN WITNESS whereof, the Parties above-said to these Indentures,
interchangeably have set their Hands and Seals, the day and year above
written.
